If the bucks is a bit of a foodie and loves to have a drink while he eats, then degustation makes a great bucks party idea. I sure love good food and good wine, and degustation is one of my favourite ways to eat.
The great thing about degustation is it lets you indulge in an amazing theme of bite-sized culinary delights. But the best part of a degustation is that the food is perfectly matched with a drink that makes your palette sing. Degustation food can be paired with wine, beer, saki, whiskey, spirits or anything really.
The paring creates a symphony of flavour explosions one small mouthful at a time, taking the buck and his crew on an experiential journey – an experience that will create the best time of his life, before the best day of his life.

Degustation is as much art as a meal
Degustation menus can range from 5 through to as many as 20 courses, and feature the chef’s signature dishes. Degustation is a culinary term meaning a careful, appreciative tasting of various foods and focusing on the gustatory system, the senses, high culinary art and good company. It’s designed to tantalise your senses and leave the buck thinking deeper about the importance of bringing food and drink together than he ever has before.
Get the right degustation restaurant and it will be an experience from the moment you walk through the door, with well thought-through decor and ambiance to take you on a journey right from the start. Serving staff, plating of dishes, timing of each course and the amount of time in the venue are all planned to ensure your night is more than a meal, but a full sensory experience.
Great food matched with the perfect wine
Wine is synonymous with degustation. And there are a lot of rules when it comes to matching food with wines and a top degustation restaurants invest in good sommeliers to make sure the wine matched just so. Perhaps the fattiness of the fish needs to be cut through. Maybe the dish’s saltiness need to be paired back or the juiciness of a grade 5 marbled steak balanced.
What ever the match, you can be sure the right liquid refreshment completes the culinary experience.

Degustation is a showcase
Another reason a degustation is a great bucks party idea is that it allows you to sample the chef’s signature dishes. It’s the produce, flavours, atmosphere and culinary experience they want you to take away with you. The degustation might take you on a journey with boutique cheeses or experience a particular cuisine through a mix of seafood, red meats and poultry dishes. Finishing things off are the dessert items with matching sticky wines, and closed out with an apéritif or digestif. If there is a particular experience you want to take the buck on, talk to the restaurant and they might just draw up a tailored menu for you!

Small and intimate or get the whole crew together
No matter if you’re planning a bucks party that’s just for a few close friends or a full sized entourage, a degustation is a great way to cater. Reserve a table in the middle of the restaurant or lock up a private dining space to get the mood you’re after for the night. If you’re looking for something a little special, or are wanting to let your hair down a little, then the private room might be the go.
A dégustation makes a great bucks party idea, but remember to be respectful. If you’re going for a fine dining experience, behave accordingly. But I’m sure if you look hard enough you might find a burgers and beer degustation if you’re looking for a night where you pull out the pickles and throw on the artwork.
